Educational Qualification:
The essential qualification is the same pattern across all 6 trades — only the ITI trade changes:
- 10th / SSC / Matriculation with Science subjects and minimum 55% marks, AND
- ITI certificate (national or state trade certificate) in the relevant trade — Electronics Mechanic, Electrician, COPA, Multimedia Animation & Special Effects, Digital Photographer, or Mechanic Motor Vehicle
CSIR also accepts two alternative routes in place of the ITI certificate:
- 2 years of full-time apprentice training in the relevant trade from a recognised institution, OR
- 3 years of work experience in the relevant trade in a Central / State / UT Ministry, Department, Organisation, PSU, or Autonomous Body

The Selection is a three-stage process conducted by CSIR-NPL itself. Paper-I is only qualifying — the final merit list is drawn from Paper-II and Paper-III combined.
1.Screening: A Screening Committee shortlists candidates based on eligibility, qualifications, and experience as declared in the application form.
2.Trade Test (Qualifying): A practical trade test in the relevant trade. You must qualify this round to enter the written exam.
3.Written Examination: OMR-based or Computer-Based, Objective MCQ format, in English and Hindi (except the English Language paper). 150 MCQs spread across 3 papers in 2 hours 30 minutes.
